REGISTRATION FULL: Software Carpentries Workshop (Unix shell, Version control-Git, R for Reproducible Scientific Analysis) In-Person

Calling all students, staff, faculty, and researchers who work with data and want to learn some foundational coding skills! Join this never-before-offered at UMD two-day workshop opportunity.

Who: The course is aimed at graduate students and other UMassD researchers. You don't need to have any previous knowledge of the tools that will be presented at the workshop.

This workshop is hosted by the Claire T. Carney Library's Digital Scholarship Hub (DiSH) in partnership with the School for Marine Science & Technology (SMAST). All UMassD students, faculty, and staff are welcome to attend as space allows.

Software Carpentry aims to help researchers get their work done in less time and with less pain by teaching them basic research computing skills. This hands-on workshop will cover basic concepts and tools, including program design, version control, data management, and task automation. Participants will be encouraged to help one another and to apply what they have learned to their own research problems.

This event is an example-driven two-day workshop on basic computing skills. Short tutorials alternate with hands-on practical exercises, and participants are encouraged both to help one another, and to try applying what they have learned to their own research problems during and between sessions. Participants should bring their own laptop to work on. This should be a "real" laptop - not a Chromebook, tablet, etc. You should also be sure to have admin privileges on this computer.

This event occurs September 28th and 29th from 9:00 am-5:00 pm. Continental breakfast and bag lunch will be provided to all partcipants.

Reserve your spot today because space is limited, but please contact us if you cannot attend for any reason so that we can fill the spot.

Please note that a Python focused workshop will be offered on Nov. 2nd and 3rd.
