Short and Sweet Scholar Series: Predatory Publishers In-Person / Online

Learn about important topics in research and publishing without an overwhelming time investment with the Short and Sweet Scholar Series. These 30 minute presentations by the Scholarly Communication Librarian will give a brief overview of the topic, and snacks will be available to keep you motivated. Does it appear that you’ve found the perfect journal to read or publish in, but maybe it's too good to be true? This quick introduction to predatory publishing will help you recognize common warning signs and evaluate unfamiliar journals before reading and citing articles or submitting your own work. Get an overview of what to look for in publisher websites, peer review, editorial boards, fees, and journal indexing so you can make more informed publishing decisions. This workshop will demo the library's new subscription to Third Iron's Problematic Publishers (TIPP). It's a great tool for flagging content that you should be cautious about while researching.
